Psychedelic Plants II

Part of the family of ‘moonflowers’ which are considered poisonous and is highly hallucinogenic rather than psychedelic, but not to psychological benefit as they can confuse and displace an individual completely.

They are deadly poisonous if used incorrectly but I find the beauty and strong scent of these flowers captivating. They only flower at night and die within 1-2 days.

I liken these to a handful of women who have walked the earth – beautiful but deadly.

This photograph shows off the delicate sculptural forms through a technique using long exposure and light. I work with Jan Ras, a highly talented photographer from Cape Town who uses this technique.

The moonflower or Datura is a genus of nine species of poisonous Vespertine flowering plants belonging to the family Solanaceae.
